Blood Relations – raising funds for Emergence.

A chance to experience a fascinating, award winning play. Blood Relations, by Sharon Pollock, appeals to many different audiences: the intellectual, the ideological and those looking for a suspenseful murder-mystery. An extract from the play was recently presented at the Emergence Open Day in July. The fusion of acting with lying, disclosures with subterfuge, of compulsion with repression is endlessly intriguing and lies at the heart of this powerful exploration of the fact and fiction that has become the Lizzie Borden legend.

“Lizzie Borden took an axe, Gave her mother forty whacks,

When the job was nicely done, She gave her father forty-one…”

Given a certain set of circumstances, is anybody capable of anything? In 1892, Lizzie Borden was accused, tried and acquitted. Blood Relations finds Lizzie, years later, in the same family home, entertaining a friend and playing with the endless question…did she, or didn’t she?…

Resurgence Theatre Company, (who performed Differentia at the National PD Conference in 2009), have gathered an experienced cast with a wealth of experience spanning the RSC, the National Theatre, West End and regional productions plus leading roles in television and audio series such as Casualty, Dr. Who, Lynda La Plante’s The Governor, The Borgias, Soldier Soldier, Stargate and The Adventures of Bernice Summerfield.

Cast: John Banks, Lisa Bowerman, Susan Franklyn, Max Gold, Lori Miller, Pauline Munro, Regina Reagan, William Whymper.

This staged reading of Blood Relations will be a script-in–hand performance with some movement, where the emphasis is on characterisation and the emotional content of the piece – a recipe for a dynamic, spontaneous and powerful theatrical experience in an intimate space. Less than 40 seats available. Come and join us…
